Board of Trustees members are appointed bv the following units: the Goldsboro City School Board. 2 members: the Wayne Count'/ School Board. 2 members; County Commissioners* 4 members, and the Governor. 4 members. Citv Board appointees are Richard B. Moffatt. vice- chairman. owner of Moffatt Oil Company: and Dr. 0. R. Stovall III. dentist. County Board appointees are E. Demming Smith, chairman, retired CEO of General Electric: and Phillip M. B?ddour. Jr.. attorney. County Commissioners appointees are Milton G. Ingram, farmer; Shelton M. Keene, farmer; Lament Whitley, farmer: and Jerome Shipman, director of Sembac. Appointed by the Governor are James L. Herring, retired: Jack E. Kannan. personnel director. Borden Manufacturing Company; J. Field Montgomery, Jr., director of Cherry Hospital: and Margie Shirley, homemaker. Non-voting members are Dr. G. Herman Porter, president of WCC. who serves as secretary of the Board, and Barbara Goodridge, president of the WCC Student Government Association and student representative on the Board. These 12 members are community volunteers who share their expertise in determining policies; many of them hold full time jobs as well as spend 4 to 5 hours after work at a Board meeting. The Board, which meets every other month, is organized into 5 committees: Executive, Building, Finance, Personnel and Student, and Curriculum. These committees work on different policies to make the WCC campus a better academic and working environment. Board members have been attending workshops geared towards helping them make important decisions for the best interests of the students and college. The January meeting dealt with the cost of landscaping the new campus. With the cost of landscaping appraised at *250,000, the Board decided to cut costs by having the Maintenance Department undertake some of the landscaping. Queen to be crowned By Whitney Edwards The first homecoming in 18 years will be held on February 16, according to Jerry Kornegay, Director of Student Activities. The homecoming game with Guilford Technical College begins at 7:00 p.m. at Eastern Wayne Junior High gym. At halt time the Wayne Community College Homecoming Queen will be announced. At this time six girls have been nominated for homecoming queen: Nell Beaman, Agriculture Club; Leigh Summerlin, Flying Bisons (aviation club); Debbie Kinsey, MCAE; Michelle Parks, SADHA; Shannon Worrell, Sigma Delta Kappa; and Lisa Best, DPMA. After the game a celebration will be held at Mother's of Goldsboro. For admittance, students must show a valid WCC ID card. Dates are also welcome. Forestry instructor retiring By Whitney Edwards Matthew Samuel Moore came to Wayne Community College in December 196? to teach in the forestry program. At the end of this winter quarter Moore plans to retire after 21 years of teaching. Prior to fining the WCC staff, Moore worked for a lumber company tor 6 years and tor the North Carolina Forestry Service tor 3 years; he was a self- employed forestry consultant tor 6 years. Sam and his wife Irene have two children, Matt and Laura, and a granddaughter Christy. When Sam is away from school, he enjoys outdoor activities like hunting, canoeing, and birdwatching. Curtis Shivar, Dean of Curriculum Programs, said, "Moore is a faithful, loyal, and dedicated faculty member of WCC." Shivar also remarked that Moore has placed students and the college first since his first day of employment. "When former students return to WCC, one of the first individuals they ask about is Moore, and they are complimentary of the efforts, training, and guiding done by him."
