6 WCC CAMPUS VOICE - MAY 22,1989 WCC reps attend N4CSGA conference By A. Z. Hubbard-Thomas Fourteen WCC delegates* 12 students* and 2 advisors attended the 12th annual Conference of North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA). Fayetteville Tech hosted the conference at the Holiday Inn in Fayetteville on April 27-29, 1989. The purpose of N4CSGA is "to provide for the common welfare and establish a unity of purpose among all students of the NC community college system," according to the mission statement distributed at the conference. "One of the first colleges to Join N4CSGA, WCC has been a member since 1971," according to Jerry Kornegay, advisor to SGA and Director of Student Activities and Recruiting. Of the thirty-seven other colleges participating at the spring conference, WCC had the largest number of delegates, Kornegay said. WCC students selected as delegates served on 10 committees which met daily throughout the conference. Each delegate reported to the voting officer, Beth Jones, WCC SGA Vice-President. Jones voted on major events in the business meetings. Primary issues voted upon included the provision of on- campus child care facilities, revision of the Student Bill of Rights, and the revision of the N4CSGA Constitution. Representing WCC were 1988- 89 SGA officers: Barbara Good- ridge, President: Beth Jones, Vice-President; Lynn Bryan, Treasurer; and Tina Thomas, Secretary. Also attending were Jerry Kornegay; Jamie Pate, SGA advisor and Student Affairs Committee Chairperson; Irene Cobb, N4CSGA Public Information Officer and SGA Executive Board; Nathan Barnes; Kevin Fryar, Vice-President of MCAE and SGA Executive Board member; Azlea M. Hubbard-Thomas, "Campus Voice" reporter; Brian Jenkins: Kemp Teague, President of Agriculture Club and Tim Williams. A dinner banquet and poolside reception was held to honor Raymond L. Jeffries Jr., who is retiring as Associate Director of Student Development of the N4CSGA. Jeffries has served the N4CSGA since 1969 and missed . only one conference. Jeffries stated, "This is my last official conference, but I shall return." You can't buy experience, so I would like to see more students get involved. Be positive, look for the good side of people. Kids make mistakes, but you have to have faith in them. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything." Mud puddles did not prevent Hike Aycock from a making a successful serve.
