14 WCC CAMPUS VOICE - NOVEMBER 20, 1991 Twins set trends By SUIANTONIE SUUNSON If you think you've been seeing double this quarter, you've pro bably caught sight o-f the two sets of i den tical twins at Ulayne Community College who have everyone doing a double-take. rtrnethia and Demetria Forte, both graduates of Goldsboro Hi gh School , are majoring in Criminal Justice and share the same future goals and interests. Demetria and Arnethia say their hobbies include dancing, shopping, and staying ou t of troubie. Lowane and Shewane Rowe, former Graduates of Charles B. Aycock Hi gh School , are another pair of eye catching twins attend- i ng WCC. The twins, majoring in computer pro gramming, are looking forward to managing a huge corporation some day . Lowane and Shewane"s favorite pastimes are watching soap operas, listening to music, and studying together. Both sets of twins say they have encoun tered such experiences as having the same dreams and craving the same foods. Wiggins appointed Irma Uliggins, Job Placement Counselor in the Co-op office and reading instructor, has been appointed to the office of Newsletter Co-Chair for the North Carolina Placement Association, according to a press release from Nita Saylor, Public Relations spokesperson for the group. All the tw i ns sa i d they had many advan tages from being a twin and also explained what they liked about being tw i ns. "One of the fun parts of being a twin is dress i ng alike everyday and knowing how you look without looking into a mirror," said Lowane. "Sometimes I play practical jokes on my sister“'s friends and pretend that I''m her," said Demetria. Out of al1 of the fun things they do together they say the best part of being twins is having each other for best friends. Psychologists have closely examined the behavior of identical twins because of their unique genetic makeup. They have found i t is likely that if one suffers from abnormal behavior or a disease, the other twin is likely to suffer also. Research has shown that even twins who were separated at birth and raised in different environments had like personal i t i es and shared the same hobbies and interests. Twins are not an everyday phenomenon and identical twins are rare . In 250 births, there are 3 sets of fraternal twins, but only 1 set of i den t i cal tw i ns.
