PHOTO: RON y»E Bison basketball underway by KEVIN GURLEY The Bison basketball season got underway on Tuesday, September 12, during an organiza tional meeting held in the North Campus Student Union at 7:00 p.m. The Bisons, two-time defending state champions, have a couple of key players returning from last year''s team that went 21-9 for the season, according to Coach Char 1es Br i t ton. SGA buys bus Britton attributes that record to the players' hard work and de term i nat i on. Overall the team is looking for a return to excellence under the same coaching staff as before. Desp i te a smal1 turnout for the first basketball meeting. Coach Britton hoped that attendance would increase during the first week of tryouts which ended on Tuesday, October 15. The 1991-92 Bisons include forwards Zach Kindlesparker, Tim Hines, Derrick k/'ick, Kelvin Reed, Reggie Lewis; guards Rudy King, Tim Holden, Kevin Gurley, Marcus Smith; and center Kenneth Hami1 ton . Wavne vs. Carteret In an upset Wayne lost 2 sets to 1 against Carteret in the first game of the season; the scores were 12-15, 15-12, and 14- 16. Wayne vs. Bladen In the opening set Balden won 16-18, but Wayne triumphed 15-1 and 15-2 In the second and third sets. Wayne vs. Sandhills In the first and second sets of the match, Sandhills took the game with scores of 15-6, and 16-5. Wayne vs. Coastal Coastal takes the match by winning the first two sets 15-12, and 15-B. Wayne vs. Lenoir In the second match Wayne is defeated 15-1, and 15-9 in the first two sets. Wayne vs. Pitt By takIng 2 of the 3 sets during the match, Wayne won 8-15, 15—10, 15-7. iJayne VS. Edoecombe Wayne takes the second match of the day 15-1 and 15-5 during the first and second se ts. Uayne vs. Brunswick During this rematch WCC defeats Brunswick for the second time 15- 13 and 15-12. iJayne VS. Cape Fp^r Wayne Is defeated by Cape Fear In the final game of the season 13— 15 and 11-15. Uavne vs. Brunswirk In the first two sets Wayne took its opponents 15-1, and 15- 10 to win the day.
