Patty Gray crowned, Ms. WCC MAY 19,1993 - WCC CAMPUS VOICE 5 By LANELLE SUTTON On May , 1993, the Student Government Association presented its first Ms. WCC Pageant in conjunction with the Fashion Show Production Class's fourth annual Fashion Show, "Making The Fashion Grade." Approximately 200- 300 people attended the event held in the Lecture Hall, at 7:30 p.m. according to Beth Jones, Student Union Coordinator; and Sharon Thornton, Fashion Merchandising and Marketing instructor. The contestants for the Ms. WCC Pageant included Patty Gray, Angie Hollamon, Dana King, Sandy Laster, Christy Michele Lee, Keshia M. Rowe, and Eve Williams. The contestants competed in casual wear, attire for an interview, and evening wear. Patty Gray, Drafting and Design Engineering major, was crowned Ms. WCC. Angie Hollamon, nursing program, was first runner up. Eve Williams received Ms. Congeniality in a vote from the other contestants. Sandra Clifton from Faison, Jim Jackson from Dunn, and Jenny Nix from Mt. Olive were the judges. William Surinos was the auditor. Models in the Fashion Show represented various styles of clothing from Campus Life '60s Style, Burning the Midnight Oil, TGIF!, Welcome to the Working World, and Spring Break, ending with the finale of Graduation Day. Models were LaRose Brock, Donna Brown, Consuella Bryant, Brooks Bullard, Cyndi Cannady, Mandy Clark, Antoinette Cowan, Amy Forehand, Tammy Griffin, Chris Gruver, Jamie Jennette, Ron Lane, Amy Loos, Betty McClellan, Jamelle McNair, Ken Neal, Ricky Offield, Lisa Overbee, Dee Overman, Daniel Paley, Sandra Parker, Lorna Reyes, Karl Tanner, Julinea Tyner, Kathy Tyner, Judy Usher, and Tracy Wright. Michael Mozingo, instructor in the WCC Literacy Center, was the emcee. He entertained the audience by singing VProud to Be An American." Students of the WCC Sewing Class modeled some of their own creations. These students were Lila Berry, Present Instructor; Renate Natson, Future Instructor; LaSonya Artis; Vicki Branch; Gena Lupton; Rachel Moxley; Julie Pate; Virginia Rich; Sheila Thompson; Becky Umstead, and Brenda Whittaker. Clothing modeled came from Allied Fashions, Belk's, Blake's--The Wedding and Formal Shop, Cato, Debs, Elite Fashions, Eva's, Fashion Bug, Full Fashion Lady, Hi- Lites, JC Penney, Maurice's, and Stuart's. The audience had an opportunity to win door prizes which area businesses donated. ^ The Renaissance L—^ is coming! =J College Council links elements By PEYTON BENFIELD The College Council, over its 20-year history, has provided a needed service to Wayne Community College. Its primary goals are to serve as the forum for communication among the administra tion, faculty, and students, and to study the problems of the college, making polijy recommendations in an effort to improve the overall operation of WCC. At its most recent meeting on April 30, the Council discussed suggestions that faculty, staff, and students had submitted to the suggestion box. 5|'J 1 II The 1992-93 College Council meiibers: Seated(l to r): B. PHOTO: LIZ MEADOR Sample problems included a report about vandalism, a complaint about an instructor's attire, and the following requests: that no smoking be allowed on elevators, a separate graduation ceremony for high school students, a pictorial directory of faculty and staff, and modernization of the registration process. Sauls will direct each suggestion to the department or division which will act upon the suggestion. Dr. Sauls appointea a committee to carry out the evaluation of administrative person nel : Liz Meador, chair; J. E. Bass; Lee Jackson; Jerry Kornegay; and Malcolm Shearin. Evaluation of admin istrative personnel last occurred in April 1991. Jerry Kornegay shared that Tom Luten would present a report to revamp registration to the Administrative Counci 1 on May 17. The Counci 1 I unanimously approved the Shared Leave Policy that the Staff Affairs Committee had prepared and presented at the winter quarter meeting.
