PIOTO: OTIISIITI by ROBBIE TEASLEY Time: 12:05a.m. Date: April 26, 1994 Headache: #34 Subject: COLLEGE TRAWSPRP f Are you going through the College Transfer Blues? If you're like me, this scenario has happened time and time again, and there is still more to come. You have just finished studying for your Chemistry II test, and you decide to look over your transfer information to make sure you haven't missed anything, but sure enough, you have! You realize that you're going to have to take Chemistry III because the college you are transferring to is on a semester system. So in order to get credit for Chemistry I and II at that school, you are going to have to take Chemistry I, II, and III here. Or maybe it is the same problem, but just a different subject. A familiar scenario? If not, you're very lucky; if so, then read on! Suppose you have applied to NCSU, ECU, UNC-W or any other 4- year institution. See Transfer tips on p. 12 You sent off your application in October because the earlier the better, or at least that is what you were told, and here it is May and you still have not been accepted. In turn, you cannot make any further plans because you may not be admitted. Here's another case: You have been ensured that you will be admitted but only after the Admissions Office has received proof of your having received your diploma from WCC, or until they receive proof that you have taken and passed all necessary classes to meet the Minimum Admission Requirements or MAR. MAR can be achieved in high school if you have taken the necessary courses to enter a 4-year institution right out of high school. Unfortunately, some of us unlucky ones were unable to achieve these credentials. We have come to WCC first to take those courses. To meet MAR you must take 9 quarter hours of the following classes: English, math, science, and social science, or earn an Associate of Arts degree. continued page 12
