Christian replaces Rich
SGA names new VP

On September 18,
1995, the SGA Executive
Board voted in Richard
C. Christian as SGA's
new Vice-President,
replacing Max Rich who
resigned.
Christian was born
on August 19, 1971, to
Richard C. Christian
III and Betty J.
Christian.
His major is
Electronics Engineering
with aspirations to
transfer to UNC-
Charlotte.
He works as a board
operator at WGBR radio
station where he is
gaining additional
knowledge in
engineering.
Christian served 4
years in the US Navy on
the USS Newport and the
Eisenhower. as an
electrician E-5.
Christian was a
starter for WCC's
basketball team in
1994-95 as guard and
small forward, and
also was an Ambassador.
He is a member of St.
James AME Zion Church.
He said, "I am a
devoted Christian who
believes in the Lord
Jesus Christ as my
savior.”
^ Christian said, "I
want to get more
students involved in
activities outside of
the campus including
community service and
Partners in Education."
He sees involvement
as a way to give back
to his community by
taking on a leadership
role.
"I will answer, to
the best of my ability,
student concerns.”

Fail enrollment drops slightly
Vermillions assumes
food services franchise

This year’s fal1
enrollment for WCC is
down by 168 students,
according to statistics
which Registrar Susan,
Sasser has compiled.
The greatest
decrease occurred in
technical and
vocational numbers: in
fall 1994, technical
programs totaled 1340
contrasted with 1257
this fall, a loss of 83
students.

Vermillions of
Kinston now has the
franchise to provide
wee’s food services.
Vermillions, a
family operation, has
an average of 14.2
years in food
experience.
Of their employees,
69% have 9 or more
years in food services
and 54% have been with
Vermillions for over 4
years.
Vermillions serves a
number of industries in
the area and Lenoir and
Pitt Community
Colleges.
According to Andy
Anderson, Vice-
President of
Educational Support
Services, the change in
food services was due
to financial reasons.
WCC receives a
percentage of
Vermillions’ income.
The new cafeteria
hours are 7:30 p.m. -
2:00 p.m. and 5:30
p.m. - 7:30 p.m.,
serving both day and
evening students.
Anderson said,
"Daytime business for
Vermillions is good."
He said, however, the
numbers during evening
hours have been very
1 ow.
In an effort to
lower the overhead,
Vermillions will offer
prerprepared sand
wiches, salads, snacks,
desserts, and beverages
only during the evening
hours.
Effective November
6, 1995, grill service
will not be available
from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
If evening sales
increase, Vermillions
can restore its.grill
service.
Vermillions also
offers catering
services for the
col 1ege.
On the other hand,
vocational programs
increased by 20
students from fall 1994
to fall 1995 with the
largest increase in the
cosmetology (by 15)
and practical nursing
(by 10).
A new program.
Medical Transcription,
added 15 student to the
172 total students
enrolled in the
vocational programs for
fall 1995.
The most dramatic
decrease occurred in
Automotive Body Repair,
which fell from 23 in
1994 to 7 this fall.
College transfer
numbers fell by 9
students, with 887
reported for fall 1994
and 878 this fal1.
Of the 2639
currently enrolled
students, 1257 are in a
technical curriculum,
878 are enrolled as
college transfer, 172
in vocational, 295 in
special studies, and 37
as dual enrollment.
The fall enrollment
for 1994 of 2807
students was the
highest in the past 3
years.
