»*AY 16, 1996 - WCC CAMPUS VOICE 3 Career Day attracts 2500 By AMANDA RACKLEY The 6th annual Career Day was held on Friday, March 15, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Atrium of the LC Building. The event was free and open to the public. The Foundation of Wayne Community College has sponsored this event from its inception. Representatives from 60 businesses and agencies discussed employment possibili ties with many of the 2500 who attended, according to Ed Kelly, Director of Cooperative Education and Job Piacement. Irma Wiggins, Associate Director of Co-op and Placement said that the purpose of the event is to give students the opportunity to discuss career goals with professionals and to provide contacts with area employers. WCC student Keith Blizzard said, "I came out here to look for job opportunities and I have enjoyed it so far." Blizzard is in Poultry and Livestock Technology. Anne Mi^llington, Job Director, organized the event. Wellness Day offered new exhibit By JILL TOOLE With a theme o£ "Well for Life," Wellness Day attracted about 200 students, faculty, and staff who visited 14 displays focusing on health issues. This was the second consecutive health fair held on campus at WCC. Approximately 86 people registered for the -Governor Highway Safety Expo., an 18- wheeler outside unit that featured drunk driver simulators, a life-sized robot, air bags, and a safety gallery. PHOTO: JILL TOOLE According to Sharon Price, counselor at WCC, 23 people had their cholesterol checked, along with 138 students and staff who had their blood pressure checked. Students were charged for 2 services; cholesterol check was $6 and the body fat percentage check was $2. A drawing for door prizes was held for participants who signed in and visited the required number of exhibits.
