PHOTO: STAFF From your SGA President On behalf of the Wayne Conununity College Student Government Association, I would like to welcome new and returning students to our campus. This year has started with a bang. The new SGA Executive Board has been working hard to plan a calendar of events to take place on our campus, two of which have already taken place. The ice cream fest held in late July was a tremendous success. We served 21, five-quart pails of ice cream to day and night students. Another event that recently took place on our campus was Midterm Madness. The SGA served 1,000 hot dogs to day and night students. During Midterm Madness a voter registration drive was held along with other important campus activities. This year's SGA is committed to serving the student body to the best of our ability. The SGA body is made up of representatives from all departments and clubs on campus. The budget which provides the money to create the events held on campus is made up of the $9 student activity fee you pay each quarter. Each representative votes on how this money is spent to promote the student activities on our campus. Many of you may notice new changes that have taken place on campus this year. The 2-year parking sticker is an SGA- sponsored project. This new sticker will increase your vehicle's security and parking space availability. The new student handbook was designed jointly by the SGA and the Media Production Department. The cover design represents the purpose of WCC, to bring in fresh new students and turn them loose into the world as workers with professional attitudes and skills. When I took office at the beginning of the summer, I had ideas and hopes for new events on campus. Many of those events have taken place or are in the process of being designed. The administration of WCC are very helpful and receptive to the ideas and concerns raised at any SGA meeting. These forums allow students to learn about the process of business meetings and the proper procedures to take to achieve goals on campus. continued p. 7
