PHOTO: RIANNE DISCH By JAMES ARTIS What takes 85 pounds of spaghetti, 25 gallons of tomato sauce, 40 pounds of ground beef, a crew of student chefs and servers, and hearty appetites? The answer to this riddle is the first SGA Cook-In of spring semester held on February, 5, 1998, in the lobby of the LC Building. According to BaRonda Roberson, secretary/ assistant to the coordinator of Student Activities, about 500 day students, faculty, and staff and 60-70 night students participated. SGA Executive Board members prepared and served the food. The cook-in is one of several activities planned by SGA each semester for students. The SGA extends a special thanks to Kristen Jones for her service to the Cooi<-ln! Renaissance in readiness for 13th issue "Renaissance," the writers' and artists' magazine of WCC, is gearing up for its spring 1998 issue, according to Rosalyn Lomax and Marian Westbrook, editors along with Kathryn Spicer, all instructors in the English Department of the Liberal Arts Division. In 1985, Renaissance's first issue was published on the old campus. Lomax said the original editors of the magazine included Bill Bennett, English instructor and Public Information Officer; Anne Croom, then an art instructor; and Liz Meador and Marian Westbrook, English instructors. Westbrook, retiring this year, now is senior editor. The magazine has changed during its 13- year history, Lomax said. The book used to have spiral binding; now it uses saddle stitching. Lomax said competition is stiffer now because of a larger number of submissions. Pat Turlington, art instructor, helps select the art work in the magazine. Lomax said the editors hope for a publication day in mid- April . Student writers and artists win money awards for the best essay, artwork, poem, or short story.
