Ricky Dills, MC for the Ms. Wayne Community College Pageant announced the new winner on Saturday, March 14, at the pageant held at 7:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall of the LC Building. Other contestants participating in the event along with Simmons, enrolled in the criminal Justice program, were Tina Cox, Kisha Cox, Amy Rinehart, Rebecca Seaman, and Wanda Broadie. The theme for the night was "An Evening in the Big Apple." The first competition, "Check in at the Plaza," consisted of the Contestants' modeling career wear and accessories. In "Shopping at Macy's," contestants showed off active wear and carried shopping bags. In the competition, "Broadway Auditions," the contestants displayed their individual talent. Tina Cox sang "He Was There," Kisha Cox and Angela Simmons each sang "For Always," Amy Rinehart sang "A Christian Lullaby," Rebecca Seaman sang "My Heart Will Go On," and Wanda Broadie performed a dance to "In Him We Live." The final round of competition was evening wear. MAY 1, 1998 Each category carried a percentage of the total points judges used to declare the winner. The judges for this year's pageant included Emerine Kelsey, Edythe Blanton, and Joan Hackman. During the tallying of the votes, Maria Brinson, Ms. WCC of 1997, gave her farewell speech after singing "Be the One." The votes were tallied by Yvonne Goodman, pageant auditor. Other winners included: Ms. Congeniality, Wanda Broadie Interview Winner, Angela Simmons Talent Winner, Angela Simmons Second Runner up, Amy Rinehart First Runner up, Wanda Broadie SGA provided for the winner a crown,' trophy, sash, bouquet, pin, and $500 scholarship. Area merchants who sponsored the pageant included Jewelry Unlimited, Crystal Hutch, A Topical Tan and Nail, Peek-A-Boo Boutique, The Family Y, NC License Plate Agency, Lemon Tree Bath, Health Habit, Just for You, Center Stage Theater, and Adams Auto Spa. Also, Bookmark, PC Extreme, Coffees And Cream, Andy's Cheesesteaks, Nail Crafters, Brooklyn Pizzeria, Nails Only, Golden Dragon, Long's Plant Farm, Charles B.
