PHOTO: STAFF [This column is a regular feature of the Voice] By NATISHA PEACOCK VOICE; Some community colleges have a President's list for students with a 4.0 GPA in addition to the Dean's list with 3.60. What are your feelings about WCC's having a President's list? WILSON; I think it's a good idea. Students can use the Suggestion Box for College Council so that the Student Affairs Committee can put forth the idea, or SGA leaders could move to initiate a President's List. VOICE; In cases of inclement weather, when would WCC follow Wayne County Public Schools' weather policies? ^ WILSON; If there is a last-minute delay, such as in the morning, I will also try to delay classes for last- minute reasons. But if a delay has been announced prior to that day, it is the student's responsi bility to arrange for child care for the student to be in class. It is very hard to make up classes so students need to make arrangements for these reasons. VOICE; For those students with children in public schools, how will their absence be considered? WILSON;' That would be up to the instructor whether the absence will be excused. VOICE; Students want to know if there could be more breaks during spring semester? WILSON; The reason spring break is at Easter is that the public schools are closed, and some students wanted to be off with their children. We will try to implement a long weekend prior to spring break in the future. VOICE; Students want to know if more public phones can be installed on campus. WILSON; I have already made a complaint about the phones. There is a contract with the phone company by the state that allows the phones to be put in for a period of time for evaluation. If the phones aren't making any money, they are taken out. If there is a suggestion about where the students would like a phone to go, they • should let me know. VOICE; Was the dress code issue resolved? WILSON; SGA has made a recommendation on the dress code and they are waiting for an approval. VOICE; Any messages to the students? WILSON; Work hard, and come to class regularly. If they are having any difficulty, talk to their teachers or advisers, seek help in the Academic Skills Center, counseling and financial aid. If they are having any problems at all, they should please take advantage of these services.
