At its Fifth Annual
Scholarship Awards
Ceremony on Tuesday,
Oct. 20, 1998, the
Foundation of Wayne
Community College
presented over $99,000
in scholarships,
according to
Jack Kannan, Executive
Director.
He said the primary
purpose of the
Foundation is to
provide financial help
to WCC students.
Through the campus
fund drive, the faculty
and staff donate money
while the community
fund drive is supported
by businesses and
industry of Wayne
County.
Kannan said many
scholarships are
available, but
"students just don't
seem to know it."
"If the money is
there, let's use it,"
said Kannan.
Scholarships are
distributed in May for
the fall semester and
in October for the
spring semester.
Kannan said that
students should begin
applying at least 2
months before
scholarships are given.
December 14, 1998
Foundation funds
also provide mini
grants (up to $500) to
give students cultural
experiences and to
provide equipment not
covered in other
budgets.
Kannan said, "This
contingency fund has to
be put into certain
things that are not
necessarily paid for by
state and county funds
and to help our
students. That is what
the Foundation is here
for."
Congratulations
scholarship recipients!
