2 WCC CAMPUS VOICE - DECEMBER 8. 1999 Because you asked... By BRIAN JODICE VOICE: What kind of suggestions have you received regarding the school’s master facihties plan? WILSON: I have received several requests. A dental lab, law enforcement and EMT facilities, and specialized course classrooms are some of the requests we have received for the plan. A physical education center may also be in the works. VOICE: What is the next building project the college will undertake? WILSON: Well, our number one priority is for some multipurpose space. We also need some more attention to student activities and child care. VOICE: What three qualities do you believe necessary for students to be successful in the workplace and in the classroom? WILSON: Basic skills, a good work ethic, and the ability to get along well with others are all essential qualities for students to be successful in life. Being punctual is also a quality needed in both the classroom and in the work place. VOICE: Also, what qualities do you admire in a person? WILSON: Someone must be straightforward and a hard worker. Just as in the classroom and workplace, people must be able to get along well with others in life as well. VOICE: What are the most frequent complaints that you hear about from students? WILSON: Actually we don’t get that many complaints. However, the complaints that are heard are taken very seriously. The most common concerns have to do with night programs that we offer, the price of books, and childcare. VOICE: One concern “The Voice” had heard about is the tuition increase. What is the percentage increase and why was it necessary? WILSON: The exact increase was 33%. It sounds hke a lot but the increase was essential due to the lack of general revenue. We get a piece of the revenue pie. The only problem is that there is not that much pie to go around. The increase is unfortunate but also necessary. What people fail to recognize is that we are fortunate enough to have the second lowest tuition in the N.C. community college system.
