Weather puts project ahead
Pair weather helped speed roofers' progress with the
new $650,000 roof on the Learning Center building.
By JASON ROWE
Good weather and weekend
work have put the roofing project
for the Wayne Learning Center
Building a month ahead of
schedule, according to Linwood
Anderson, Vice President for
Educational Support Services.
The first phase of removing old
shingles and covering the roof
with a water/weather proof layer
began in January and continued
throughout part of February.
The second phase, the
installation of steel and galvalume
panels, began in March.
Workers with T.R. Driscoll
Roofing from Lumberton, NC,
missed V2 to 2 consecutive weeks,
but recent good weather has put
them ahead of schedule.
Anderson said the college has
budgeted $650,000 for the roof
replacement, including a charge
for the removal of asbestos
shingles which required^air
monitors and special gear like air
masks to protect workers.
The new roof carries a 20-year
warranty against leaking, fading
and rusting.
According to Anderson, roof
experts agree that the new
standing seam metal roof is
currently the best available. The
gray color should blend in with the
roofs of the other buildings.
