Other speakers in the series included Mary Tyler Moore, Ann Richards, Joan Rivers, and Leslie Stahl. Ivey said, “I wanted students to hear a prominent spokesperson in the history of the women’s rights movement.” In 1972 Steinem helped to establish “Ms,” a successful women’s magazine. Steinem also formed the National Women’s Political Caucus and the Coalition of Labor Union Women. She was named to the National Women’s Hall of Fame for her achievements. Rosalyn Lomax and Kathryn Spicer, who also attended the event, said they thought Steinem would be more “fiery.” Spicer said, “She was not as forceflil as I had expected.” Students thought Steinem looked great to be 66 years old. Her best-selling books include “Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions” (1983) and “Revolution from Within” (1992).
