PHOTO: SAM DAVIS By SAM DAVIS On Friday, 11 February, the WCC Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter visited the Countryside Assisted Living Home in Pikeville. Members LaRose Brock, Sara Joyner, Ginger DeVore, Henri Andrews and Michelle Weatherspoon brought valentine gift bags for residents at the horne. In the lounge, residents were .warmly greeted with assorted treats, smiles and sincere affection. PBL members personally delivered the assorted treats to residents unable to meet the group in the lounge. Other activities this semester included a Valentine bake sale and raffle in the WCC Learning Center. The primary goal of the fund raiser was to raise money for a contribution to the March of Dimes as well as raising money to assist PBL members to attend the PBL State Leadersliip Conference in April in Charlotte. Items for sale included homemade cupcakes, cookies, truffles and cake. Prizes raffled off in the afternoon included gift certificates for local area restaurants. The event realized a profit of $810, marking the most ever garnered from a single fund raiser by the group. At the 46* annual PBL State Leadership Conference held in Charlotte, NC, on April 9, 10, the following students placed in 5 categories: Melanie Messam, place, and Elizabeth Wilson, 7* • place. Word Processing; Daine Kelley, 3^^^ place. Accounting for Professionals and place for Finance; Henri Andrews, place, Computer Concepts; Richard Judge, 6* place. Management. Ginger DeVore, WCC PBL Chapter president, was inducted into Who’s Who in North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda. The WCC Chapter received an award from the National PBL for increasing chapter size. Officers include president, Brian Jeanette; vice president, David Gurley; and secretary/treasurer, Nancy Aycock. The members meet monthly, for a total of 3 or 4 times a semester. The purpose for the club is to promote agriculture throughout the county. Projects for the Ag club include Barnyard at the Fair, Livestock Show and Sale, and the Ag Days Recruiting Day. MCAE By SAM DAVIS Major projects for the Multicutural Association for Enrichment (MCAE) in the spring semester have included the Soul Food Luncheon, the Apollo Show, and the Dance Contest during Spring Fling. Officers include President Michelle Shepherd and Secretary- treasurer Katrina Newsom. Norma Dawson and Janice Fields serve as co-advisers.
