PHOTO: VOICE STAFF New Mexico instructor visits WCC Writing By KELLY LITTLE On Friday, March 23, Ted Maier, English instructor from Clovis Community College (CCC), New Mexico, came to Wayne Community College on his spring break to find out about WCC’s Writing Center. Maier had e-mailed Writing Center Director Sharon Royal on March 7, requesting permission to observe the Writing Center. Because his school is planning to establish a Center of its own, it sponsored his trip He was especially interested in the administrative and record keeping aspects of maintaining a writing center. Royal said. Maier said that CCC, with an enrollment of 4,000, is the only college within a 100- mile radius of Clovis. Some classes meet weekly for 2 hours because of the long commute and farming schedules. Maier, an instructor at CCC for about a year, has also been a Teaching Fellow at Miami University in Ohio and a high school teacher for 5 years at New York State. As well as his visit to WCC, Maier also toured the writing/ learning centers at UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, and Wake Technical Community College.
