On February 21, 2001,
Rhea Purvis, transfer
admission coordinator at
Barton College in Wilson,
visited the Wayne
Community College campus
to answer any questions
students had about
transferring to Barton.
Only one student had made
an appointment to meet with
Purvis, so she used the
occasion to recruit from 11
a.m. to 1 p.m., setting up in
the Atrium and distributing
brochures, pamphlets and
catalogs.
In the past, Price arranged
visits to the 4-year college
campuses, but because of
limited participation from the
students she decided to have a
representative from the
individual colleges come to
WCC.
Sharon Price, WCC’s
transfer counselor, wanted to
stress the importance of
students knowing the
requirements of a 4-year
college and university.
Transfer requirements
vary among these schools,
and students should take this
opportunity to talk with
representatives.
She stated, “It is the
students’ responsibility to
take control of their
educational process and to
make sure they are taking the
appropriate classes.”
Other representatives who
came to discuss transferability
for students included those
from East Carolina
University, University of
North Carolina at
Wilmington, Mount Olive
College, North Carolina
Central University, and
University North Carolina at
Greensboro.
