PHOTO: VOICE STAFF By AMANDA CARTER SGA efforts during the fall semester 2003 resulted in some familiar and new activities. SGA leadership came from President Matt Bartlett, Vice President Shannon Davenport, Secretary Uvette Johnson, Local Interaction Jermifer Williams, Public Information Mary Davis, and Special Populations Deena Stutts. Student Government advisors for the 2003-04 school year include James Bynum, Student Activities Coordinator; Carl Brow, counselor; Ray Burrell, Division Head for Business and Computer T echnologies/Agricultural and Natural Resources; and Kathryn Spicer, English instructor. The first general meeting was held on August 26^^ at 11:00 a.m. in the Board Room. Discussions centered on upcoming events, such as the Fall Festival. The lack of parking spaces and the placing of non smoking signs to accommodate non-smoking staff and students were also some of the issues mentioned. September’s meeting was cancelled because of Hurricane Isabel. On Monday, September 29, 2003, SGA sponsored bingo in the Student Activities Center. About 20-25 participated with their student I.D.’s presented in order to play. SGA officers served food and presented prizes, such as a DVD player, a stereo system, and school-related passes. President Matt Bartlett said he was pleased over the SGA Fall Festival. He said it was a huge success with over 300 students participating. On October 21,2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Board Room, President Matt Bartlett welcomed 4 new clubs to the SGA student body: The Drama Club, Human Services Club, Poetry Club, and the Fine Arts Club. Officers and representatives discussed such issues as the “new” bookstore, snack machines in the Pine building, the placement of automatic doors in front of WLC, and renovation of the Student Activities Center. Coordinator of Student Activities James Bynum announced SGA would be starting basketball games at the Family Y October 21,2003. On Thursday, November 13, 2003, the SGA meeting was held at 12:00 p.m. in the Board Room. Club participation has increased since the beginning of the semester, from 11 clubs to 16 clubs. Shannon Davenport mentioned increasing smoking awareness. A smoking awareness table was set up to provide information on smoking for student and staff Discussions focused on construction of the floats for clubs that would be entered in the Goldsboro Christmas parade. Thinkfast, a parody of the popular T.V game show “Jeopardy,” was held November 18, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Any student who wanted to participate could play. Music kept students entertained before the game began. Students had remotes with band names on them so winners could be found. Twenty questions were asked in the first 3 rounds; students were given 3 clues to what the answer was. The first 2 clues were hints to the ■ wrong answer; the third clue was a hint to the correct answer. The first 4 fmalists/winners were Josh Earp, Kyroun Ray, Charles Whitely Jr., and Larry Porter. Josh Earp won $40.00 for answering the first question. The other 3 winners split $200.00 among themselves. Another Bingo event will be held on December 12, 2003, in the Student Union at 1:00 pm.
