Returning to Wayne
Community College for the
spring semester, students
observed various changes to
improve campus life.
The Student Lounge is
being expanded by 1,000
square feet, according to Ken
Ritt, vice president for
Educational Support Services.
This expansion will
provide a larger sitting area
for students to socialize. Ritt
said that the game room
inside the lounge would be
opened and relocated for
users’ convenience.
The newly renovated
lounge has a new partition,
which separates the leisure
area from the study area for
everyone’s convenience.
A vending area will make
sandwiches, drinks, and otlver
foods accessible to students
24 hours without their having
to go through the poolroom.
Completion of the lounge is
slated for mid-May 2004.
A window in the SGA
office allows the advisor to
monitor the lounge.
A specially built display
case will house the Bison
head, the WCC mascot.
Other areeis of the campus
have undergone refurbishing,
according to Ed Farris, head
of Maintenance. Azalea
building’s second and third
floors have been painted and
carpeted.
Restrooms and locker
rooms in the Azalea building
have been repainted. The
men’s locker room was
painted blue and the women’s
was painted pink.
“The Dogwood building
restrooms have been
repainted,” Farris said.
Over the Easter holiday, the
Magnolia building’s second
floor was re-carpeted.
According to Farris,
employees John Toler, Earl
Edwards, Bob Guyse, and
Dave Chambley worked on
the exterior painting during
the renovations.
All carpeting and wallpaper
was subcontracted to
Premiere Carpets.
Painting Unlimited was
hired to do the interior
painting of the campus
buildings
For its 100* Anniversary
the Goldsboro Rotary Club
asked Landscape Design of
Goldsboro to design a
Memorial Garden between
the Veterans Memorial
Monument and the Wayne
County Emergency Services
Monument on the north end
of the campus.
