THE STUDENT NEWSPAPER OF WAYNE COMMUNITY COLLEGE : WCC’s new president Dr. Albertson talks about her plans By HANNAH COLEY Staff Writer After looking intd who it believed would be the best person to replace Dr. Ed Wilson as president of Wayne Community College,the WCC Board of Trustees selected Dr. Kay Hall Albertson, vice president of academic affairs and student development. The state board of community colleges agreed with its decision, and Dr. Albertson will take over in July. The Campus Voice talked to Dr. Albertson recently. Reaction to medicine led to a battle for life By MIRANDA ALLEN-LILLARD Staff Writer Almost two years ago on May 17, 2005, WCC staff member Meredith Mozingo called into • work saying that she would be late. Feeling sick, she went to a medical facility and was prescribed an antibiotic. She had the prescription filled and was at work by 9:30 a.m. She took her first dose of the antibiotic and began to feel sicker. By the next morning on May 18, her father Photo by SHANTEL HERRING took her to Wayne Memorial Hospital. §he was immediately placed in the ICU where she stayed for two days. She was then airlifted to the Chapel Hill Jaycees Bum Center. She remained there for six weeks on life support. Meredith was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. This is a potentially deadly skin disease that usually results from a drug reaction that can affect any age group. Internally and externally, the skin and body burn.
