With her husband, Jim, working long hours into the Ms. Mozingo Continued from page 13 Lenoir Community College, was a perfect match. Stem cells were taken from Ms. Mozingo’s brother’s eye and sewn into her right eye. After the surgery, the doctor informed her that she may not be able to see for a while. But things went so well that the very next day, her right eye was opened and she saw her son Tyler for the first time in 22 months. She noticed, from five to six feet away, that he was wearing an Alabama shirt and holding up three fingers. Ms. Mozingo says that “she wasn’t looking at a little second grader anymore but a grown up fourth grader.” Tears of joy were shed by the entire family. The eyesight in her right eye is currently 20/50. The doctor said that if all continues to go well, they will open up the left eye, repeat the operation and see‘how it goes. Before you take your medication, read the side effects of that medication.” She is now on an anti-rejection medication for the rest of her life. Ms. Mozingo also says, “I feel very special that after two years, the people at WCC still think about me. Since the very first day I said I was sick, people have sent me cards, flowers, and gifts, and I’ve kept every single card for inspiration.” Ms. Mozingo worked in the Basic Skills Department for 12 years here at WCC in the Adult Basic Skills (ADE/GEl5) program. She held the position of the off-campus coordinator. “I’m coming back - hold my job, cause I am coming back,” Ms. Mozingo says. “I cannot wait. So she asked her husband to adopt a dog from the pound. “My husband went by himself because I would want them all. Sam was the first to walk out of the litter, so. he was the one we got,” she explained. After eight years and many great memories, Sam has grown into an intimidating, yet gentle giant. “If anything comes in the yard, he will let me know,” she said. But he has never harmed anyone. “His size scares people, so nobody messes with me, especially strangers,” Mrs. Eason said. With the world the way it is today, one’s true character is difficult to recognize sometimes, but not for Sam. His foolproof method of character judgment has never failed. An example of his skills was when he sniffed out just one man from a group of construction workers. Sam would bark and growl at only this one man. Mrs. Eason later found out he had a history of animal cruelty. When asked if she would consider getting another dog, Mrs. Eason replied, “Only if it’s the same breed. He’s such a great dog.” Circle Stables Horse farm OWNERS DANNY JACKSON CARROLL JACKSON 503 Old Mt. Olive Hwy.
