Student Government election
scheduled for October 11 and 12.
Because it is almost impos
sible to schedule a student body
meeting at a time that would not
conflict with class schedules, this
election will be carried outwith-
out such a meeting. The pro
cedures of nominating candi
dates and electing officers have
been planned as to allow all stu
dents to participate.
All students should note that
this is a special election to fill
these offices for the current year.
After the Student Government As
sociation Constitution is ratified,
the election for these offices will
occur in May for the following
school year. (The constitution
will be presented to the student
body for a vote later this year.)
The positions to be filled by
this election are the executive
officers of the Wilkes Community
College Student Association con
sisting of a president, vice-pre
sident, secretary, and treasurer;
the officers of the Sophomore
class; the officers of the Fresh
man class. All candidates must
be full-time students, taking at
least twelve credit hours, and
must have a “C” average. Be
cause freshmen may not have es
tablished a grade standing at this
time, this requirement cannot
apply to them; however, the e-
lected officers of the Freshman
Class will be expected to main
tain a “C” average. The candi
dates for offices of the Student
Government Association must be
second-year students having
completed a minimun of 30 cre
dit hours. The candidates for the
offices of the Sophomore class
must have sophomore standing,
or 45 credit hours of completed
work.
After nominations are closed,
each nominee will be asked to af
firm his candidacy. If a student
is aware that he has been nom
inated or if he has delcared
himself a candidate, he is asked
to report to the oWice of Stu
dent Personnel Services between
the hours of 12:00 and 5:00 p.m.,
Friday, October 6. In the event
that a person receives nomina
tions for more than one position,
he will be asked to select the nom
ination that he will accept. No
person may be a candidate for
more than one office.
On Monday, October 9, a list
of the candidates will be re
leased. All candidates are en
couraged to launch imaginative,
attention-getting, but brief cam
paigns.
