Letter Is Received From SGA Head “Some people find fault as if it were buried treasure.” — Francis O’Walsh, It is true that the Student Government Association is in charge of the student center, but it is also each student’s responsibility to do his share in maintaining its upkeep and name. In the February 27 edition of the Cougar Cry, Vol. 1, No. 8, one can read the article titled “Student Center Faces Major Breakdown.” The opinion of the majority of the reading public is influenced even by the unsupported asser tions of those who assume a right to criticize. In this article there are many “unsupported as sertions” that have no basis, such as the paragraph which reads as follows; “It seems that Jim Lyall, S.G.A. president, who is in charge of the student center could not be found and was not seen all day.” Mr. Hepler, S.G.A. advisor, informed me around 9:30 the morning of the “Major Break down” that the furnace in the student center was not working and that I should get in touch with Mr. Paul Osborn, owner of the house. I called Mr. Osborn shortly afterwards and he said he would call a repairman immedi ately. One has got to take into consideration that once a re pairman is called, he cannot immediately drop the job he is doing just because the student center is out of heat. Another example is taken from the last paragraph of the article which begins with the following sentence: “If any student of the S.G.A. had happened to have been around that day, things wouldn’t have gotten so messed up.” The newspaper had pictures of the “Major Breakdown” and the ironic thing about them is the fact that two of them con tained a member of the S.G.A. As one can see, there are many “unsupported assertions” contained in the article; there fore, when one criticizes, one should have basis for the criti cisms. So I shall end with this quote from Thurber: “Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.” Jim Lyall S.G.A. President When the vv^orld entirely fits your notions, you will be the only person on it. TO THE PHANTOM (Continued from Page 3) many of my fellow students will stop and shut their minds to this. I am reminded of a holly- wood production of “The Ugly American.” Yes my fellow edi torial writers (known and un known) the truth does hurt. Al though this is true of the S.G.A. and the teachers, I have not heard of one of our teachers submitting an unsigned editorial to anyone much less imposing one on the entire student body by way of the student lounge or any other means. As I see it, some people have a long way to go in three or four years. We all hope the children of yes terday are the adults of tomor row, but somebody better grow fast. If by now I am voted of the year at W.C.C., I decline the nomination on the grounds that someone beat me to it. Would you believe the Phantom Scribbler won an award this year? To revise the statement of Becky, this congress would not only do nothing but would stop at nothing as well. Examples can be freely found in the student lounge. (Please circle all misspelled words). In closing I will say that it is “nice” to have the creeping crud, L.B.J. and our god the S.G.A. Jack Bryan
