along with other members of the
community, did willfully and in
tensely on said night of Saturday
October 3 NOT take part in an
experience of immeasurable
value to the great “state” of
Wilkes and most probably the
entire world. On this night four
of our truth-seeking, fact-find
ing faculty held a seance.
Mrs. Moore, Mr. and Mrs.
Klinkosum and Mrs. Hepler, with
the help of an amateur medium,
conjured up “Mr. Hooker,” who
made at least two phenomenal
things happen. He made a card-
table move and Mrs. Mayes “gig
gle a lot.” While Mrs. Mayes'
laughter did not give any infor
mation, Mr. Hooker did. He was
able to give answers to ques
tions in yes, no, and numerical
terms. As for the truth of his
answers, all those present were
able to verify what he had said.
At all times during their
seance, the medium was being
checked by one or all of the four
faculty members. Mrs. Hepler
noted that at no time were the
medium’s muscles tense while
her hands rested on the table.
Mrs. Klinkosum checked her legs
to make sure that they themselves
could help in no way.
They had taken the card table
from one room into the seance
room and so made sure no tricks
could move the table, such as
wire being used to manipulate it.

Before you start to laugh in
ernest, it should be remembered
that Duke University has been
carrying on experiments in
E.S.P. which was thought not to
exist by thousands just a few
years ago. While this one ex
perience was not sufficent to
make belivers of these faculty
members, it helped to give them
a healthy dose of respect for the
supernatural. I think that they
all agree that this field should
be more fully explored.
Wallace Hurts
Humphrey
A comparison of the survey
results indiciate that Nixon and
Gardner, the Republican candid
ates will receive approximately
the same percentage of the votes,
whereas Humphrey and Wallace
will split Scott’s voters.
The fact that this forecast was
a combination of two surveys
and that the results from both
are close adds strength to the
•reliability of the poll.
What is your opinion? Are
elections predictiable in Wilkes
County? Why don’t you keep this
survey to compare with the final
results for Wilkes County?
Statistics students at Wilkes
Community College have just
completed two surveys indicating
the governor and Presidential
preference of Wilkes County re
sidents.
The Republican nominee for
President holds a commanding
lead in Wilkes County. The re
marks concerning the undecided
voters for governor apply also to
the presidential survey with one
exception—Nixon’s commanding
lead will be much more difficult
to overcome as is evident in
TABLE 2.
The results of survey A, B,
and a combination of both indicate
that Gardener has a narrow lead
in Wilkes County. However, an
analysis of Table 2 shows that
many people did not state a per-
ference. The fact that many
people are undecided at the pre
sent and that the election is al
most a month away, indicates that
the governor’s race in Wilkes
County may tilt either way.
The student conducting survey
“A* contacted approximately
one-half of one per cent of tlie
estimated 25,000 registered
voters in Wilkes County (123 par
ticipants). The names were
selected at random from each
township in proportion to the
number of voters. In survey “B”
£very fiftieth telephone sub
scriber (158 participants) in
Wilkes County was selected to
participate. The students, in both
surveys, were careful not to in
fluence the participants in any
way.
Circle K Plans Chapter
Plans are being made for the
establishment of a chapter of
the Circle K International at
W ilkes Community Co liege.
“Circle K is. . .a service or
ganization for college men
operating on campus and is
similar to Kiwanis International
and other service clubs.” The
local chapter of Kiwanis Inter
national in North Wilkesboro is
sponsoring the W.C.C. chapter.
All those interested should
contact Mr. Idol, Dean of Student
Personel, at the administration
building.
The “Cougar Cry” supports
this service organization and be
lieves that it will be an asset
to the student community.
