THE VOICE OF WILKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE VOL. 2, NO. 12 Wilkesboro, North Carolina APRIL 21, 1969 WCC MOVES INTO NEW FACILITIES •*'* *■ , ri-'" ’’ Circle^ Convention WGC ‘Open House’ Scheduled Two members of the Circle K Club at Wilkes Community Col lege attended the district con vention in Charleston, South Car olina during the b r e ak between winter and spring quarters. Ron nie Triplette and Jerry Pardue represented our school’s club as delegates to the three-day convention which began March 28 at the Francis Marion Hotel. The program consisted of many interesting programs which included a welcoming ad dress by the Mayor of Charles ton, luncheons, workshops, busi ness meetings and some enter tainment. There was also plans made for the Circle K Interna tional Convention which will be held in Portland, Oregon and the next Carolinas District Conven tion which is tentatively planned for next year in Charlotte, North Carolina. The two delegates brought back much information for projects for our young club. Circle K members are to be commended for their contributions to student life at WCC. “Open House” at WCC is sche duled for the first three Sundays in May, According to Dr. Thompson, the new WCC campus will be open for public inspection on May 4, 11, and 18 from 2:00 until 6:30 p.m. each day. There are to be guides on duty to conduct tours of the facili ties and to explain the purpose of each building, as well as to answer any questions the visit ing public may have. Everyone is invited to attend. But with *Open House''being held (Continued on Page Four) STUDENT COMMONS On April 2, 1969, Spring Quar ter began for WCC students in the college facilities located just west of Wilkesboro. The three new buildings, Thompson, Hayes, and Lovette Halls, lie in the picturesque hills which are the main attraction of Western North Carolina, The students seem to feel very satis fied with the new campus and feel that their sojourn in Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro was worth while. The buildings were very well designed to utilize space and provide an attractive atmosphere in which to work and study. Ad ministrative offices and class rooms feature the latest in light ing and decor. Each room is dif ferent to distract from the mon otony so present in most public school buildings. Most of the interiors of the buildings are complete with the exception of the library which will be ready in the near future. bn the outside the parking areas are now adequate with more parking areas being prepared. Landscaping has been hampered by the inclement wea ther but is presently being worked on. Student reaction has been good with very few complaints. Every one seems to be happy just being in one spot and meeting their fellow students. English Teachers At Convention Two of the English teachers at WCC attended the Conference on College Composition and Communication in Miami Beach, Florida. Mrs. Diane Hepler and Mrs. Brenda Moore flew to Miami on April 14 where they spent the first three days at a film festival at Miami Dode Jun ior College studying the use of better films for college classes. The convention had as a key note speaker James McCrimmon who many students at WCC have learned to respect through the (Continued on Page Four)
