THE COUGAR CRY, NOVEMBER 19, 1969 PAGE 3 North Carolina Athletic Association Gets New Rules By KENNY BROOKS CHITTUNG TEST The North Caroliiia Commu nity College Athletic Associa tion has adopted four new rules for the coming basketball sea son, Joe Linney, president elect of the association announced. The first of these rules is the adoption of the red, white and blue ball, but will still be two ounces lighter than the official American Basketball Associa tion ball. This ball will only be used in scheduled conference games. The association has also a- dopted the regulation ABA three- point play rule. This means any shot taken outside a 25 foot radius of the basket will count three points instead of the usual two. Another adoption made by the Yesterday’s War I am the memory of the past, the forgotten changer of history, the building blocks of nations. I am conqueror and liberator, hero and villian, patriot and but cher. I am the dead of yester- day^s war. I have huddled cold and scared in the forests of Norway and the jungles of Luzon. My feet have trod the deck of the Duke of York and the hard dirt floor of Dachau. I have watched the ships in Scapa Flow and the misty iron sky at Dover. I have laughed and sung and drunk my beer and I have worried and wept and prayed. And I have died. How can I, a living breathing feeling being, be reduced in an instant to a mere shadow ’n the memory of another? A brother in Lintz enters a room once pealing with gaiety and good will and remembers me. A comrade in Antrim sits and sips from his glass at an-Bmpty, lonely table and remembers me. A mother in Kyoto finds a cap buried in an old, rusting, seldom-opened trunk and re members me. A girl in Adelaide discovers a letter in a dusty, broken, for gotten volume and remembers me. For a moment my spector in vades their memory - then flick ers - then fades and I die again. I am the dead of yesterday’s war. Robert Rice NCCCAA is a new foul shot re gulation. Under this ruling, the first six team fouls made, the team fouled will be awarded the ball out of bounds instead of given a foul shot except in the instance of a foul committed while aplayer is in the act of shooting. In this case the player will be awarded free throws under the old rule. Last of all, to fulfill the de sires of the spectators, the dunk shot has been legalized once a- gain. In talking with Joe Linney, coach of the Cougars of Wilkes Community College, he stated that the way the Cougars are presently developing and with a few preseason games under their belt, they will definitely be a contender in the conference race under these new rules. NCCCAA Splits Conference The Community College Ath letic Association has also split the conference into two divisions similar to the association splits now existing in both the Na tional Basketball Association and the American Basketball Asso ciation. Wilkes Community College is in theWestern Division along with Cleveland Technical Institute, Davidson County Community Col lege, Gaston College, and Surry Community College. In the East ern Division with Beaufort Coun ty Technical Institute, Cape Fear Technical Institute, Fayetteville Technical Institute, James Sprunt Institute, Lenoir Community Col lege, Sandhills Community Col lege, and Wayne Community Col lege.
