Division of Veterans Affairs.

specified. Scholarships are
valid in state institutions of
higher education and technical
institutes. Cash payment pro
vided for use in private colleges
within the state.
Value — Provide free tuition,
fees and a reasonable room and
board allowance in state insti
tutions of higher education and
technical institutes. Four years
maximum. Certain categories
provide free tuition and fees
only. Cash payments in private
colleges within the state range
from $342 to $930 per nine-
month academic year.
Eligibility — Children of cer
tain veterans who died or are
100 per cent disabled as a re
sult of service in WWI, WWII,
Korea, Vietnam; or children of
peacetime veterans whose death
or 100 per cent service-connect
ed disability was incurred (1)
as a direct result of armed con
flict (2) while engaged in ex-
tra-hazardous service; or (3)
children of certain veterans
who were listed in a POW-MIA
status for more than 90 days.
The veteran must have been a
legal resident of North Caro
lina at the time of entry into
service, or, with certain excep
tions, the child must have been
born in North Carolina and con
tinuously resided there.
A child is eligible as describ
ed above if the parent was a
veteran of WWI, WWII, Korea,
Vietnam, or a peacetime veter
an whose disability was incurr
ed as a direct result of armed
conflict or (2) while engaged in
extra-hazardous service. The
veteran must have or at the
time of death must have had a
30 per cent or more but less
than 100 per cent service-con
nected disability or a statutory
award for arrested tuberculo
sis.
Also eligible is the child of
a veteran rated and receiving
or at the time of death receiv
ing 100 per cent non-service-
connected disability benefits.

The Vinciata Suite was inspired by paintings of Winston-
Salem artist Joe King, whose painting name, Vinciata, is taken
from the name of a tenth century castle, Vincigliata, near Flor
ence, Italy. The Vinciata Suite is Italian style and each inove-
ment bears the title of one of the artist’s paintings.
