KATHLEF:N WALTERS Robert B. McNeil Scholarship The first recipient of the R.B. McNeil Memorial Scholarship was announed May 20, 1976. Miss Kathleen Walters of North Wilkesboro was presented the award. The fund was established in 1975 to honor the memory of an outstanding and dedicated teach er, Robert McNeil, who suffered a fatal heart attack in the summer of 1975. Miss Walters achieved high academic excellence, participated in the College Theater, edited the Literary Magazine of WCC, and participated in several other college activities while holding a full time job a considerable part of the time. Robin Barber Food & Environmental Sciences Class Plan Summer Program This summer the Food and Environmental Sciences students at WCC will be making an environmental impact study at Stone Mountain State Park. The study will include analysis of streams, soils, air, plants and animals. The class will use two recently acquired research instruments, an atomic absorption unit and a gas chromatograph. The atomic absorption unit will be used for inorganic analysis to examine liquids for heavy meial contamination. The gas chromatograph will be used tor organic analysis to examine foods, water, and air for contamination. The students participating in this program are Debby Bingham, Linda Blackburn, Crystal Couch, F’erry Dickerson, Tommy Har- rold, Claude Lowe, Leon Mabe, Bud McKew, Tom Osborne, Larry Roscana, Gregory Spicer and Lee Swaim. Mr. Dean Simpson and Mr. Hadley will instruct the class. The work study program was made possible by a grant from the Comprehensive Employment Training Act (CETA).
