What’s wrong with having fun between classes? Who made the rule that school was just for studying and no relaxation? This writer feels it’s about time something was provided for the students to get together and have some fun. The commons is a place for the students to get together for fellowship. The library is a place for the students to study. The school does have a recreation room far away from the study area. It’s called the commons. It will be great when the new building opens, but for how we should be allowed to enjoy the facilities we have without being condemned for it. The majority of the students at school are serious about getting an education and enjoying a game of pinball or ping pong between classes. It is a lot more convenient than driving to the local pizza place for some relaxation. Remember, all work and no play will make John a dull student. This writer would like to thank the SGA for providing an area where students can get together and have a little fun. -Barbara Bumgarner MISS NORTH CAROLINA - SUSIE PROFFITT Wednesday night, Miss North Carolina, Susie Proffitt crowned April Anthony, Homecoming Queen for 1977. In the future Miss Proffitt hopes to own and operate her own ladies fashion store. However, this year she is a Goodwill Ambassadress for North Carolina and the North Carolina Jaycees. Before she relinquishes her crown in June of 1977, she will have traveled over 50,000 miles, criss-crossing the state many times to make appearances at new store openings, local pageants, ban quets, parades, and special events. Tl^ai^ You, Miss ^{ortl} Carolina Let's Play Pinball There’s been some controversy regarding the pinball machines and other recreation facilties in the Student Commons. True, there are some aspects that make these facilities seem useless in an institution of higher learning, but there are some good points going for this area too. There are times when students don’t have a class or any studying to do and a game of electric tennis or Foosball with some friends help the time fly by. There are times when all of us are disappointed in ourselves or • with someone close. A fast game of pinball helps us ease some of the mental anguish. And perhaps the best reason is the competition between the teams in a game of ping-pong or Foosball. “Hey Beautiful could I interest you in a game of pinball?” -Ervin “Shorty” Waller Membership Drive Still In Progress Because of bad weather, the Symphony Membership Drive, which was to have ended the third week in January, has been extended, and the first concert was postponed.
