The Bureau’s director says, “There are hundreds of found ations with millions of dollars in funds earmarked to aid students in meeting the cost of higher education that goes untouched each year. Why? Students do not know of the foundation or foundations or how to go about obtaining these funds.” The Bureau offers its services to deserving students by supplying names of foundations and guidance as to how to go about obtaining funds from same. For more details on this service interested students may write: American College And University Service Bureau Dept S 1728 - 5050 Poplar Ave. Memphis, Tenn. 38157 Composer Pays Visit To WCC (A FANTASY) January 15, 1987 - Brian Shealey, famous composer and conductor of the world-renowned New York Philharmonic Orches tra, was back in Wilkesboro this weekend after an absence of ten years. Shealey was here visiting Dusty Patterson, owner of radio station WCCC in Wilkesboro. The two men were former classmates in the Radio/TV course at Wilkes Community College. Shealey and Patterson paid a surprise visit to the college campus and many of the students greeted them with accolades befitting the greatly admired and very famous. Asked about the twelve months which he spent at WCC back in 1977, Mr. Shealey told the students they were probably the happiest and most rewarding days of his youth. He then added what turned out to be the caboose, “The one thing 1 recall more vividly than all my other memories of that year is that in the winter months we had very little heat in our building and all of us just about froze to death.” -Dottie Putzel Dance! Dance! There will be a dance sponsored by the Freshman Class on February 11, 1977, at Tobacco Road in Ronda. Triple Tree will be playing. Admission will be $2.00 per person with free draft from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The band will start at 9:00. Signs are posted that give directions to Tobacco Road. GOVERNOR WHEREAS, In the past quarter century since World War II, outstanding advances have been made in science, medicine, technology, communications, agriculture, commerce and industry in the United States, and Canada; and WHEREAS, these advancements have created challenging problems for mankind; and WHEREAS, these challenges have created a need for responsible, active citizens concerned with the quality of human life; and WHEREAS, these challenges have been accepted by individuals and organizations such as CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL: and WHEREAS, the concerned members of CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL, an organization of involved college students, sponsored by KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL, want to have an “Impact of Life” by acting in such areas as public health, hunger, youth and the elderly, consumer protection, and social priorities such as the environment on some 700 college campuses and surrounding communities; THEREFORE, I proclaim the week of February 6-12, 1977 CIRCLE K WEEK and commend this observance to our citizens.
