This year marks a milestone in
the history of Wilkes Community
College. Dr. Howard Thompson,
President of W.C.C., announced
his retirement effective in June
this year. This will draw to a close
12 years of dedicated service to
our college by a man who fought
hard and long to see an institution
of higher learning come to Wilkes
County. Most of us know of
Doc’s accomplishments, and we
owe him a lot for giving us an
opportunity to advance ourselves
in this ever changing world.
Today, March 4th, is Doc’s
birthday, and I know that
everyone wants it to be his most
memorable one. The pictorial
essay in this newspaper is of
events that have taken place
during 1977 that have been of
significance.
Happy Birthday, Doc. This is
your day. On behalf of the
faculty, staff, and students at
Wilkes Community College, 1
sincerely hope that this special
edition of the COUGAR CRY
conveys the respect and admir
ation that we have for the man
that has dedicated so much of his
time and self to make Wilkes
Community College the great
institution that it is today.
