PAGE 6 — THE COUGAR CRY, JUNE 16, 1977 Poetry Comer WOMEN OF CONTROL In the distant mind Adhesive mud of lust A strange internal war Domatrix of thought Ideals frictionaly entwined short order woman Rich temptation Warm of the soul Sever your control Women rich in deceit Sirens of the soul Loosen your control -Ken Holmes YOU From my window at midnight, I look up toward the sky. I see the stars so bright. I think of years gone by. When life was full of sorrow, And hope I had was lost. When living each tomorrow. Just wasn’t worth the cost. And yet I know dreams don’t last. Nor do burdens to one’s soul. And like all men who’ve fled the past, I strive to meet a goal. For this one caused strive each day. My hopes no more in vain. No more I care what people say. For now my missions plain. So here I stand alone this night. Absorbed in deepest thought. I’m waiting for the morning light. I’ve found what I have sought. -Roger L. Bradley MEMORIES Beautiful words: do they come from the heart.... from emotions deep within? Writing in truth along with loving desire to be a part of your heart! Your love in its magnificence keeps your loyalties young: shining and flowing out of the wind of time... Let your heart be crowned with immortal praise, if, it be as warm as your touch. These about you are beautiful: let me not, be deceived.... your mysterious eyes, what did they see? Perhaps, rainbows, like royal flames? Your soft touch, warm as a summer breeze! The best I have ever known and missed.... I ask myself why, not knowing still that fire burns deep and a heart doth melt! Memories of one evening spent with you.... thoughts linger still; nothing remains, it ended too soon! Yet, golden forever, like eagles flying. Now in my perplexed silence, my muffled mind tells me, that evening will be remembered, as a bright star shining forever! Rivers wash away stones; some times leave ferns yet, 1 reached out, touched the sun, and my heart pines with desire! Perhaps, a mental battle...but not forever: for 1 shall see you again, someday, again, and then I will know; being filled with innocence and prize thinking of your rare face ashine! Fire does burn deep; sometimes leave scars — dark clouds blow by but not memories of you Your sitting in a chair, masses of dark hair, unravelled by your shimmering smile! May you never feel pain from yesterdays blows, clouded with the mystery of tomorrows sorrows; astonishment, yet calm in you exists, great secrets dared to be explored! -Pat Goss Gentry LIES The time has come for me to say that we must go our separate ways you said you would call but you never did how did I know that you were not dead It’s nice to think of the times we shared but now I know that you never cared You made me cry so many times I still don’t know why ’cause you are not mine You love yourself but in the wrong way life for you will have no stays 1 pity you dear but I don’t know why ’cause you are nothing but one big lie. -Pat Gentry Voice of Wilkes Commimity CoUere Wllketboro, North Carolina 28697 COUGAR CRY STAFF Editor: David Swaringen Dusty Ball, Gloria Beatty, Ken Holmes, David Patterson, Ervin Waller, Charles Adams Advisor: Dr. Essie Hayes Collie Workstudy The College Work-Study (CWS) Program provides jobs for students who have great financial need and who must earn a part of their educational expenses. You may apply if you are enrolled at least half-time as a graduate, undergraduate or vocational student in an approved postsecondary educational institution. In general, the salary you receive is at least equal to the current minimum wage. Maximum hourly wage rate depends on the job and your qualifications.
