Well, it’s that time again! The
bees are buzzing, the birds are
singing, and the flowers are
blooming. It’s time for the yearly
Spring Fling! This is a special
fun-filled occasion that has been
happening for several years at
Wilkes Community College. It
gives the students a chance to
become involved in someting
more than books and studies and
the ringing of class bells. It breaks
the monotony of the Spring
quarter.
Carousel On Tap
At W.C.C.
Another fine Rogers & Hamm-
erstein Musical brought to the
area by the Symphony Guild and
the Wilkes Community College
Theater. The production will run
the 5th & 6th and the 10th thru
13th. The performance on the 5th
is reserved for Symphony Guild
season ticket holders. The public
opening performance on the 6th
will be signed for the deaf. All
performances start at 8 o’clock.
This is a show for the whole
family.
Tickets will cost $3.00 for
non-students and $2.00 for
students. Jerry Bangle, Sandy
Smalling, and Bud Mayes have
collaborated to make this a
memorable production.
The story line involves a
charming vagabond, a naive and
trusting girl, a restive and lonely
teenage girl, some solid respecta
ble people and some not so solid
and respectible people. All these
characters are involved in some
highly unusual ways.
The Spring Fling will be held on
Friday, May 12, on the college
lawn. In the event of rain, the
festivities will probably be moved
indoors, but this not official.
The Spring Fling is sponsored
by the SGA at a cost of
approximately eight hundred
dollars, but it’s free to the
students—so enjoy!
The activities are many, and
varied. The biggie will be the
“Battle of The Bands.” There will
be six bands competing. They will
begin playing when classes end at
11:00, and continue playing the
rest of the day. Other events will
include the Frisbee distance
throw, the 100 yard dash, a
Horse-shoe tournament, a sack
race, a Volleyball tournament,
Foos Ball, and Ping Pong.
The Phi Beta Lambda will be
selling ice cream, and the Circle K
will be selling Hamburgers and
Hot Dogs.
Don’t miss this chance for a
relaxing, enjoyable, fun-filled
day!
Refusal Of Petition
There has been a lot of talk as
to why David Maine’s petition for
SGA President was not accepted.
In the first place, the deadline for
petitions was Friday, April 14. All
petitions would have been
accepted any time before Friday.
David’s petition was not turned in
until Monday. If the SGA had
accepted David’s petition, the
entire process of signing petitions
would have had to been done
over. This would also cause a
delay in elections. In the SGA
constitution it states that elections
must take place the last two weeks
in April and before the SGA
convention, which is May 3.
David was told of these facts
and agreed that in all fairness he
could not run.
Congratulations to the new

Hiding Place
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a
place to go when your feeling
alienated sick or just plain bla. A
drop in center or crash place on
campus. A place where a teacher
can have a cold, smoke cigarettes,
and admit to drinking beer.
A student would lay down or even
catch a nap. There are no old
buildings on this campus with
little nooks an crannies to hide in.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the folks
who plan things put some private
places in their plans.
