THE VOICE OF WILKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE Volume 13 - No. 6 WILKESBORO, NORTH CAROLINA May 28, 1984 From the President SeAxe^nte^entA/ mof29, 1984 Marshals Chosen 0 a-n// '^/add- ^ Mr. David E. Daniel, President This school year has been one oi the most successful in the history of Wilkes Community College. Certainly our student government association has functioned in a most efficient and effective way, leading our students toward new levels of achievement in all areas of student services. Students have excelled in many fields this year and have won the appropriate awards to prove their merit. The faculty has done an outstanding job in the classroom. More than anytime in my experience at Wilkes Community College the faculty appears to have served students with the highest quality of instruction. While we regret to see our graduates leave, we rejoice with them because of their achieve ments and will follow their careers with interest and pride. As you depart these halls we thank you for that part of yourselves which you leave with us and hope that a part of us will be carried with you into all your future endeavors. We will have a happy time at graduation on May 29. I look forward to seeing you and your families at that time. To all of you, accept my sincere appreciation for having made this such a significant year in the history of Wilkes Community College. Career Day On Wednesday, May 2, 1984, the Wilkes Community College library was over flowing by personnel directors and job placement officers from several companies and businesses located in the Northwest area of North Carolina. Also, present at the Career Day were representatives from the Armed Services of the United States. Students were allowed to visit with these representatives between the hours .of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. While interviewing with the represent atives, students learned what the businesses and other groups were looking for in employment. Also the students were given the chance to fill out applications and turn in resumes to the representatives in hopes of becoming employed. Bob Paisley, a counselor at Wilkes Community College, thought that the Career Day was “a success and that students benefited from the experience.” Student comments ranged from very informative, extremely beneficial, 1 think I got a job, to there wasn’t enough time to talk to everybody. All sophomore students next year plan for Career Day again in Spring Quarter. Remember your resumes, neat appearance, and dress nicely.
