Believe it or not, the perennialy popular Cotton Patch Version of the Gospel by Clarance Jordan has been turned into the musical. The late Harry Chapin composed the music and the songs are delightfully faithful to the spirit of Jordan’s work. Cotton Patch Gospel has been praised by a variety of Christian organizations. Christianity Today said to “drop everything and go see it. Your feet will be tapping and your fingers will be snapping.” The National Council of Churches commented: “Jubilation. We recommend that you see it.” The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association responded; “We recommend Cotton Patch Gospel A hilarious and subtle, yet direct approach to the Gospel. Bravo!” The Long Island Catholic reviewer wrote: “The whole evening is a joy.” The popular musical will be performed in Wait Chapel on Sunday, September 9, at 8:15 p.m. The national touring company from the Dallas Theatre center will be giving its only performances in the area at Wake Forest University.
