Visit The Library!
By Fay Byrd
The best part about the Learning Resources
(Library) of Wilkes Community College
will always be its persotmel who include;
Mrs. Janet Atwood, librarian; Dr. Fay
Byrd, director; Miss Vickie Cothren,
technician; Mrs. Audrey McNeil, librarian;
and Mrs. Rebecca Queen, secretary. As
new or returning students, come by for an
orientation that will help you become a
better student.
Can you imagine moving from trailing
technology to the cutting edge? That is
exactly the hope of every librarian or media
specialist - to be able to access the world of
communication or information at one’s
finger tips.
While we are getting the new Student
Center/Learning Resources facility ready -
we hope that the North Carolina
Legislature is moving closer to North
Carolina Live - an electronic library project
that will provide universal access to
reference and research materials in
electronic format regardless of geographic
location and time. Students will be able to
dial into oiu- on-line catalog from their
homes and will have improved access to
other libraries, archives, business, and
govenunent data. More CD’s will also be
interactive.
This vision will start to become a reality
during the Christmas holidays. Back to the
present, we have much of this technology
in place through the Internet and a
subscription to FirstSearch. Spend a few
minutes with one of the library staff and
become a proficient user of all of our
resources.

presenting the award. Dr. Gordon Bums
commented, “Bud Rhodes exemplifies
everything we at Wilkes Community
College strive for. He cares about his
students, both personally and
educationally. It is his goal to see that they
leave WCC well prepared for their future
in education and life, and he far exceeds
that goal. To put it in accounting terms,
Bud Rhodes is an immeasurable asset to
Wilkes Community College.
For the first time, the college’s staff voted
