What is Phi Theta Kappa?
What are Phi Theta Kappa
Members?
According to Phi Theta Kappa publications,
the average member age is 29, yet the age
range is from 18 to 80. The average member
is married, a parent and employed, yet many
members are single full-time students. Some
were in the top ranks of their high school
graduating classes, others were dropouts.
Many are re-entry students, who are getting a
second chance at education. Others, even
among the older students are attending col
lege for the first time. The majority of mem
bers are permanent residents of the United
States or Canada, but many are international
students, who have left their native countries
solely to attend college. Some plan an acad
emic career that will include graduate school,
others will end their formal education at the
two-year college level.
Interested in Joining?
Students at WCC qualify for Phi Theta
Kappa if they:
•are day or evening students, full-time or
part-time
•have a 3.5-t- GPA
•have accumulated at least 12 quarter hours
•demonstrate leadership skills
•adhere to the moral standards of the society
and enjoy the full rights of citizenship, free
dom, and privileges of the USA.
If there are students who come close but do
not quite make the requirements, and think
they would benefit from Phi Theta Kappa
membership, WCC can accept them as pro
visional members. At the local level we do
not distinguish between regular members
and provisional members. They cannot vote,
hold office or represent the chapter at meet
ings, but they can certainly participate in all
other Phi Theta Kappa activities. Currently
we have about 5 provisional members.
