Page 15 Cougar Cry Getting to Know Blair Hancock (Continued from page 14) year thing, I think sometime soon I’m going to have to make a decision whether I want to rede fine myself as more of an administrator and do better at this job, cut back even more on the teaching, maybe even go further. People occa sionally ask me if I’m going to apply for the Dean’s job here and I think I will not this time but it’s not out of the question for down the line. I want to decide whether the administrative as pect of education is going to be something I commit to more or would I rather be full time in the classroom and make my commitment there. Honestly, I just don’t know right now, it’s a daily thing. Something else is going to have to happen 1 think to help me decide. My children will defi nitely factor my decision. I may decide to teach for 5 or so years then return to administration. I figure by then I’ll be so old that students won’t want me in the classroom anyway, I’ll be all gray headed and such. I just really don’t know where I’ll be ten years from now. Interviewer: “If you manage to find any free time, how do you like to spend it?” Blair; “With my family. In the past I was a hiker and a camper and I plan to return to those things once the children get older. For now I focus mostly on their educational skill and so forth. I do have a Newfoundland dog that I have a lot of interest in. Being from the Northeast that particu lar kind of dog caught my attention and I have had one for the past 15 or 20 years. I belong to a club of Newfoundland owners. The one I have now is 10 months old and is 100 pounds of pure puppy energy. Newfoundland’s are known for their sweet nature so basically what I have is a 100-pound lap dog. My dog is sort of my refuge, my bit of pleasure outside of everyday living. Thank you Blair for sharing this bit of your life with us. Good luck in your future endeavors! Human Services Club Update Submitted by: Crystal Miller The Human Services Club selected the fol lowing officers in the fall semester. President, Tonya Oliver, Vice President, Crystal Miller, Secretary, Edith Graham, and Treasurer, Pamela Bare. The newly elected leaders and members of the club have been highly moti vated and are getting involved. During the fall semester the club participated in the cam pus clean-up project, adopted housekeeper Robert Spangler for Housekeeper Apprecia tion Day, as well as selected names and pur chased gifts for children from the Angel Tree. The club’s main focus is on community serv ice and helping those in need. Most recently, a food drive was conducted for the SAFE house. Sheltered Aid for Families in Emer gency crisis situations. All were successful projects due to the enthusiasm of each club member who participated. We look forward to furthering our community service eforts in the future. The club conducted a Halloween bake sale in the fall in order to raise funds for the SOHSE conference in March. The conference will be held in Macon, GA this year. We hope to raise enough money so that the cost will be reduced for members who want to attend the conference. Future fundraisers include a Val entine candy/bake sale February 10 through February 12 in the student commons. The club will also be taking doughnut orders at this time to be delivered February 25. We are all looking forward to the Watson Festival in April where the club will again sale the badges that were such a big hit in 1998. The participation of the club member’s has been outstanding and each individual effort is to be commended for a successful year thus far. Thanks for all the help!
