The Wilkes County Cruisers Fourtii Annual Car Show was held on the campus of Wilkes Community College, Saturday April
17th. Despite the wind and pollen, about 300 showgoers came and brought their vehicles from all over, with the farthest distance
going to a man from Pineville, NC. People spent the better part the of morning shining up their vehicles to perfection, talking
with the spectators, and preparing for the judging. Judging began about 1:00 and went until 4:00. One judge was noted as saying
“How do you judge a vehicle, there all nearly perfect?” Well needless to say, it was a difficult challenge for all the judges, but the
judges stuck to their guns and were able to pick the top 3 out of 58 total classes. With about 300 entrants to the show, the
Cruiser’s raised a substantial amount-for Hospice and the WCC Autobody Scholarship.
The top winners were: Best of Show, Charles Severt — ‘64 Pontiac GTO; Best Ford, Billy Moose — ‘57 Ford; Best Chevy, Ed
Vannoy - ‘57 Chevy; Best Mopar, Mark Shepherd - ‘70 Plymoth; Best Pontiac (In memory of Roger Pardue), ‘64 Pontiac GTO;
Best Truck, James Smithey - ‘79 Ford; Best Motorcycle, Mike Roope - ‘95 Honda; Best Street Rod, Ed Vannoy - ‘33 Ford
Coupe; Club Participation, Mountain Top Cruisers.
A special thanks goes out to the Wilkes Community College for the use of the campus, WCC Autobody Club for helping organize
the car show and all the participants. Also a special thank you to the people who came to enjoy all of the cars and trucks.
