Star in Heaven continued from page 4...
I remember when she got the “all
clear” — the cancer was gone. We re
joiced! But it was short lived because
1 cancer does that sometimes. I remember
speaking with her many times through-
A out her struggle. At times I was the one
who would cry, and she would comfort me. I remember ask
ing her how she did it — how she stayed so positive and
strong. She said, “You have to fight; you can’t give up. If
you do, it’s all over.”
She had two classes left to graduate and I felt blessed that I
could do an independent study with her for one of them.
Once again she would be my student, and I could be hers. I
learned so much from her - endurance, perseverance.

of life is. What I could teach her about
computers paled in comparison to what
she taught me. She wanted so desperately >
to finish her Associate Degree in Informa-
tion Systems although she knew she
would never be able to work. We discussed graduation; she
insisted she couldn’t go because she would be unable to walk
by then. I insisted that she would — laughingly, I said that I
would carry her if I had to.
Right before the spring semester of this year, Star was rushed
to Baptist Hospital and had to drop her classes. She didn’t
give up though; she just postponed her classes until the sum
mer session.
On January 28, 2000, Starlene went to be with the Father.
