Cougar Cry Page 18 Someone once told me that you can judge the quality of a restaurant by first going to the restroom of the establishment. I don’t necessarily know if that holds true, but it has certainly made me take notice of all the rest rooms that I use. This brings me to the subject of the WCC restrooms. I checked them all. Kudos to the janitorial staff. Most were im maculate. A story: Once when attempting to use the ladies room in upstairs Hayes Hall, I was jerked by the hair, while walking into, what happens to be, the only stall that latches. The perpetrator took the stall for her own use, and I got the one with the curtain. The attackers excuse: “You always get the one that closes.” An example of the main problem I encountered... the stall doors don’t close. As a rule, the men’s rooms were in better shape than the women’s were. And, yes, they were all equipped with soap and paper towels. Overall, the stalls were in much better shape. This could be due to the fact that they are less frequented. But, who really knows? The best: the new building, of course. The worst: Lovette Hall. Let me elaborate. Lovette has a men’s locker room, complete with a commu nal shower (with some sort of aged orange substance covering the walls) and bathroom stalls with dividers, no doors, and open for the world to see. Not for the modest, I must say. Amidst the lockers was trash and folding chairs. The whole scene was reminiscent of an abandoned stadium after a sport ing event. Thompson, Hayes, and the TA building were similar in quality. Decent. Although, one particular women’s restroom in Thompson, one out of six of the stall doors don’t close at all. I’ve seen people lined up just to use the one. And, from experience, I can say that it is no picnic to try to use one of the stalls where the doors continually fling them selves open. It’s quite the balancing act. There are also several stalls around campus, that once you’re in, you can’t get out of them. I tested a few, and some times, it’s a struggle. All in all, during this experiment, I didn’t learn too much that I didn’t know about the bathrooms around campus. I, much like everyone else, use them. But, I did uncover something interesting and confusing about the opposite sex. Boys don’t flush.
