cording Secretary Jada Par
sons, for her dedication and
work above and beyond what
her duties in Alpha Kappa
Omega required. We were
pleased to bring home two
awards for Dr. Staten: an
Honorable Mention for Dis
tinguished Advisor and the Horizon Award, which is
given to advisors who have attained new levels of
achievement in Phi Theta Kappa programs. Obviously,
the Regional Judges recognized something that our own
Dean and College President have yet to grasp: that this
is a woman who is dedicated to excellence in her work
with students and the community. We were also very
pleased that we received the Most Improved Chapter
Award for re-emerging chapters. I feel that this reflects
all that the executive officers, chairpersons, and mem
bers have contributed to our program.
Despite all of our achievements, I miss seeing
the majority of our members because you aren’t coming
to the meetings\ I appreciate the "regulars"...those ac
tive members I can depend on to come through when we
need some extra hands. However, there are a great
many of you who aren’t active and we need your support
to continue to be successful! Just think about all you’ve
missed so far this year: We held our first blood drive of
the semester on February 2nd, we ranted at Mr. Alan
Richey after his Honors Scholar Lecture on The Chang
ing Paradigms of Education, and we laughed out loud at
the Valentine one-act plays "Don’t Get Sassy” and
“Wanted: One Groom.” Free lunch was provided during
Dr. Staten’s Honor Scholars Lecture on Chinese Rheto
ric, we enjoyed a gourmet meal and loads of fun during
the Regional Convention, and we stuffed our faces dur
ing our New Member Orientation Luncheon on March
8th. Stop missing out! I’d like to encourage all of you
who are inactive members or those of you who are con
sidering membership to come and join us for fun and fel
lowship at our meetings. Held the second and fourth
Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in room 1112,
you’ll be able to meet other members, learn of up
coming events, and enjoy a free lunch! That’s truly food
for thought!!!
Our next Honors Scholar
Lecture Luncheon will be held Wed.
April 15th, when we will be pleased to
hear from biologist Dr. Joanne Burk
holder in the Hayes Hall lecture room.
As always, thanks for your time and I
hope to see you soon!
