CQUCA Volume 30 Issue 1 August 17, 2000 HOWTO WRITE A PAPER This was submitted by a student interested in sharing his study skills with the rest of us. We hope it will help you in the coming semester. 1 .Sit in a straight, comfortable chair in a well lighted place with plenty of freshly sharpened pencils. 2.Read over the assignment care fully, to make certain you under stand it. 3.Walk down to the vending machines and buy some cof fee to help you concentrate. 4.Stop off at the student commons, on the way back and visit with your friend from class. If your friend hasn't started the paper yet either, you can both walk to Wendy’s and buy a hamburger to help you concentrate. If your friend shows you his paper, typed, double-spaced, and bound in one of those irritating see-thru plastic folders, drop him. 5.When you get back to your room, sit in a straight, com fortable chair in a clean, well lighted place with plenty of freshly sharpened pencils. 6.Read over the assignment again to make absolutely certain you understand it. 7.Y0U know, you haven’t written to that kid you met at camp since fourth grade. You'd better write that letter now and get it our of the way so you can concentrate. We are glad that you have chosen our college as the place to continue your education. You have made a wise decision to enroll at WCC. Our instructors are among the best in education today. They continually strive to stay current and knowledgeable in their respective fields of study. The college staff takes seriously their responsibility to assist and serve our students. Eve ryone at WCC wants you to be successful. Always feel free to ask anyone of our highly qualified faculty and staff for assistance. Together we are facing an exciting year at Wilkes Commu nity College. The renovation of the John A. Walker Com munity Center is nearing completion. We apologize for any inconvenience this construction causes our students; however, the finished product will be worth it as we enjoy the beautiful facility. Also, as part of our continued efforts to enhance our campus and make it more “user-friendly” for our students, be on the lookout for new signs that will be going up across campus during the year. This is also an exciting time across the state for all com munity colleges. If approved, the statewide bond referen dum that will be voted on this fall would provide the neces sary funds for new construction, renovations and updated technology on our campuses. The student services per sonnel assist students in voter registration each year. We hope that you will register and vote in all elections.
