HOWTO WRITE A
PAPER
This was submitted by a student interested in sharing his study
skills with the rest of us. We hope it will help you in the
coming semester.
1 .Sit in a straight, comfortable chair
in a well lighted place with plenty of
freshly sharpened pencils.
2.Read over the assignment care
fully, to make certain you under
stand it.
3.Walk down to the vending machines and buy some cof
fee to help you concentrate.
4.Stop off at the student commons, on the way back and
visit with your friend from class. If your friend hasn't
started the paper yet either, you can both walk to
Wendy’s and buy a hamburger to help you
concentrate. If your friend shows you his paper, typed,
double-spaced, and bound in one of those
irritating see-thru plastic folders, drop him.
5.When you get back to your room, sit in a straight, com
fortable chair in a clean, well lighted place with
plenty of freshly sharpened pencils.
6.Read over the assignment again to make absolutely
certain you understand it.
7.Y0U know, you haven’t written to
that kid you met at camp since
fourth grade. You'd better write that
letter now and get it our of the way
so you can concentrate.

Together we are facing an exciting year at Wilkes Commu
nity College. The renovation of the John A. Walker Com
munity Center is nearing completion. We apologize for
any inconvenience this construction causes our students;
however, the finished product will be worth it as we enjoy
the beautiful facility. Also, as part of our continued efforts
to enhance our campus and make it more “user-friendly”
for our students, be on the lookout for new signs that will
be going up across campus during the year.
This is also an exciting time across the state for all com
munity colleges. If approved, the statewide bond referen
dum that will be voted on this fall would provide the neces
sary funds for new construction, renovations and updated
technology on our campuses. The student services per
sonnel assist students in voter registration each year. We
hope that you will register and vote in all elections. You
