ACA Student Success
By: Daphine Grayum
Student Success is a class that has been de
veloped to assist new students with the
WCC campus life; (finding classes, finding
the bookstore, the library, information about
services that are available, who to contact
with problems, etc.) Rumor around campus
has it that many students consider this class
a waste of time. Granted, transfer students
or other out of state students could benefit
from this course but a majority of students
from the area feel the class isn’t necessary
and should be offered on an elective basis.
Those who have grown up in this area have
likely been on campus many times before
they enroll in a class for themselves.
From my experience with the class, 1 tend to
somewhat agree with the theory. There were
parts of the class that helped me immensely,
such as tips on how to take notes, study for
tests, and techniques for relieving stress
around exam time.
This class was also very informative about
the various student services available on
campus (such as financial aid and scholar
ship opportunities), along with support ser
vices (tutoring, counseling, and readers)
available for the students. But the rest of the
class didn’t help me enough to have it as a
required course. I would love to hear from
my fellow students about their experiences
and see how the rest of the student popula
tion feels about this class! Just email me at:
news@wilkes.cc.nc.us.
Please check out our next is
sue and let’s see if Mr. Sink
can give us his insight into
this
class.
