SGA NEWS By Tabatha Maya Many of you are aware of SGA, but you are not sure what SGA does on campus. SGA stands for Student Government Association. We are a club on campus that represents the student body of Wilkes Community College. The Student Government takes your con cerns and questions to administrators, so that we may get answers for your questions or have your concem(s) addressed. Anyone can be a member and attend meetings. SGA meetings are held every first and third Thursday of each month at 12:15 in room II12. Usually, lunch is served at the first meeting of the month, and we try to have a guest speaker(s) at this meeting as well. Sep tember 14 &15, Student Government elections were held for some open positions. Thanks goes out to all who voted! All candidates ran un-opposed. There is still one assistant programming chairperson position available. See Scott Johnson located in Student Ser vices for an application. SGA sponsors a variety of events and trips for WCC students to enjoy, all of which are paid for with your student activity fees. For instance, the WCC Idol con test was held recently. Congratulations to the winners of the contest! We hope to see the winners perform a Christmas concert for WCC students in December. The Student Government Association also coordinated the WCC Fall Festival on October 21. On November 4 there was a Drunk Driving Simulator in the student center, and November 5, the Angel Tree Program be gan. The Angel Tree is a Christmas tree set up in the student center lobby that has the names of underprivi leged children hanging on it. When you see this tree, go by and pick up a tag, and buy a little boy or girl a gift for Christmas. Also, November 10 and 11 elections for Mr. & Ms. WCC and Mr. & Ms. Cougar will be held in the stu dent center lobby. The nominees from SGA are James Redmond and Cynthia Colbert for Mr. & Mrs. WCC and for Mr. & Ms. Cougar the SGA nominees are Brandon Bess and Katherine Comer. Congratulations to all and the best of luck! December 7, there will be a holiday reception in the student commons. December 9, there will be a holiday crafts workshop in room 1110. Students may go to room 1110 and make holiday crafts to take home. The SGA will be sponsoring the Old Salem Tour Decem ber 10; students can sign-up for that trip in student services. The Student Government Association also gives away fi"ee tickets to Walker Cen ter events. See Scott Johnson in Student Services for free tickets to Walker Center events. The Student Government Association sponsors and par ticipates in many events here on the WCC campus. Please come to one of our meetings and see what we, the SGA, are all about. Hit A Grand Slam in fall 2004 by teaming up with student activities and SGA. Association of Information Technology Professionals By Arlene Handy, AITP Advisor The AITP (Association of Information Technology Pro fessionals) meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 12:20 PM in room 141. Usually, a guest presenter speaks at the monthly meetings. The guest is a com puter professional from the business world. Everyone is invited to attend the meetings to hear the speaker. The speaker for the October 5*'’ meeting was Vickie Key, a graduate of WCC and is now employed at Unique Solu tions. How to Handle Test Anxiety • Sit down and make a list of all classes and tests that you are responsible for. • Don’t forget to sleep. • Don’t overstudy. • If you have a hard time getting started, then you might want to relocate. • Another way to structure your studying is to start a study group with people who are serious about studying.
