Phi Theta Kappa Honors New Inductees

The Wilkes Community College Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Chapter, Alpha Kappa Omega, held
a ceremony to honor new inductees on Sunday, April 3, 2005. To be eligible for membership in Phi Theta Kappa,
students must have earned a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average for at least 12 semester hours of course-
work that can be applied toward an Associate’s Degree. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for two-
year colleges. Established in 1918, it has grown to be the largest honor society in American education with more
than 1.3 million members. Thirty-eight new inductees were honored on Sunday. An induction into the Phi Theta
Kappa International Honor Society is a great honor and WCC’s faculty and staff are very proud of the students’
outstanding academic achievements.
The 2004-2005 Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter officers conducted the ceremony. They are Sherry Mabry, President;
Priti Patel, Vice-President for Scholarship; Matt Taylor, Vice-President for Service and Fellowship; Michelle Pear
son, Treasurer; and Lorrie Gouge, Recording Secretary. The welcome was given by Chapter Advisor Blair Han
cock. WCC’s President, Dr. Gordon Bums, a strong supporter of Phi Theta Kappa, presented the opening remarks.
Sheneele Wagoner, Chapter Advisor, gave the closing remarks.
Wilkes Community College’s Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is an
active chapter. They invite and encourage all new members to become involved in as many activities sponsored by
the Chapter as possible.
