Pamela M. Ham was selected by her fellow students to
lead the Student Government Association (SGA) at the
Ashe Center of Wilkes Community College during
elections held in the first week of May. Ham, a sopho
more majoring in accounting and business administra
tion, will be joined on the Executive Council of the
SGA by Melissa Rash, assistant vice-president; Tho
mas Johnson, secretary/treasurer; Becky Victoria, pub
lic information officer; and Sarah Reash, programming
chair.
To be eligible for the Student Government Associa
tion, students must have completed at least 12 semes
ter hours credit at Wilkes Community College with a
grade point average of at least 2.5. Students must also
be taking the bulk of their coursework at the Ashe

“I am very appreciative of the confidence my fellow
students placed in me,” Ham said. “We have a very
strong group of officers and I look forward to working
with them to make this the best year ever at the Ashe
Center.”
The SGA acts as the voice of the students for the Ashe
Center. In the past year, this group led by Diana
Hamm, vice president; Pam Ham, assistant vice-
president; Tabitha Dancy, secretary/treasurer; Sandra
Mortez, public information officer; and Vickie Cooper,
programming chair, has held over 15 student events.
These events included the collection of over 75 pints
of blood at two blood drives, sponsorship of 15 chil
dren at Christmas, and hosting the groundbreaking
ceremony for the center’s $1.5 million expansion pro
ject. Additionally, the SGA has worked closely with
their counterparts at the Wilkes campus to develop
leadership skills and enhance the overall atmosphere
of the Ashe Center.
“The SGA is an integral part of our operations and is a
wonderful opportunity for students to gain leadership
and teamwork skills,” explained Chris Robinson, di
rector of the Ashe Center. “We rely heavily on them to
be the leaders on campus and in the community. They
represent the best of the best and I know that Pam and
her team will make next year even better than this
one.”
“This is an exciting time for our campus. We are in the
midst of a major expansion that will better serve stu
dents and the community. The SGA will certainly be
involved in shaping the future of the Ashe Campus.”
The Ashe Center of Wilkes Community College offers
