Northwest College Tech Prep Consortium wins
Award for Marketing Program
The Consortium has presented this planning guide at two
national conferences as well as the North Carolina CTP
Conference.
The Northwest College Tech Prep Consortium was honored
with the Silver award in the “Promotion of College Tech
Prep” category at the 2007 North Carolina College Tech Prep
Conference on March 7th.
The award recognizes clear
and effective efforts by schools
to promote and disseminate
information about their CTP
Program (plans, goals, successes,
or projects). This award recognizes
the best efforts in marketing to all
stakeholders.
"Build a Career Path to the
Future” is a twenty-eight page
planning guide developed by
the Consortium (Alleghany,
Ashe, Wilkes County Schools,
Wilkes Community College) for
high school students, parents,
and community leaders in the
consortium. The guide provides
information specific to high school
courses and degree offerings in a

The purpose of the planning
guide is to increase awareness of Career and Technical
Education(CTE) programs with students and parents, expose
them to career options, and provide pathway information that
would assist them in mapping their future and continuation of
education with a two or four year degree. North Carolina high
school requirements are listed along with electives for career and
technical courses leading to appropriate degrees in community
colleges and potential four year degrees. Each high school in
the consortium has used the planning guide as part of their
registration process.
College Tech Prep is a course of study designed to meet the
need for high school graduates to have more technically-oriented
educational backgrounds. Participants in College Tech Prep
are consortia consisting of at least one community college, one
high school, and industry partners. College Tech Prep is funded
through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education
